ArmInfo. Alienation has become Armenia's new Constitution. Vahe Hovhannisyan, a member of the Alternative Projects group, writes about this in his article.
According to him, the quality of public discussions surrounding the schoolboy's arrest leaves no room for optimism. A lazy and inert public discourse is observed against a backdrop of collective indifference, demonstrating the extent of national disorganization. "Unfortunately, we are no longer a state-owned society; we are more like a large refugee camp, the outcome of which will be decided in the near future.
The next episode is before your eyes. If this government is restored, we will receive an unconditional 'yes' to the constitutional amendments requested by Aliyev. During the public demonstration of 'walking under Aliyev's sword,' we will be ashamed to look each other in the eye, but this will be hidden behind rampant cynicism, accusations from the entire world, and a reluctance to engage in politics. A few days later, Aliyev will give a speech in Baku and declare that only two steps remain to establish peace: the return of 300,000 Azerbaijanis and the partial 'geochization' of Sevan. And the same public debate will begin as today: childish, indifferent, opportunistic, mercantile, falsifying history and focusing on one's own ego," the political scientist noted.
He regretfully noted that the reality is that Armenia has ceased to be a society. Society presupposes certain written and unwritten laws, norms, rules of coexistence, a sense of shame, a list of "don'ts," and at least a minimal opportunity to listen to one another. "Today, we have none of this. Anticipating this, 2-3 years ago, I said that we should move to a mass dialogue between elections. I am confident this was the only correct path. But a moderator for this process has never been found. Because in our country, leadership means something else: unilateral decisions, infallibility, and so on. Today, the Armenian electorate is more alienated from each other than we are from Azerbaijanis.
It's not hard to guess where this will lead. It's also no coincidence that various authoritative and serious sociological studies today present completely different pictures. An anomalous society has an anomalous sociology. Can a self-alienated, fragmented society make a real choice for the sake of its united future? The current situation in the region is terrifying, if you look at it even for a moment through the eyes of a rational person. "Who will take on the process of creating internal public relations? That's the main question. Until then, we don't hear, we don't see, we don't understand the risks of months of distancing. We don't understand what foreigners are warning us about. We've become disconnected from reality and the truth,"Hovhannisyan emphasized.
