ArmInfo. During the 2021 snap elections, the people of Armenia answered the question of who provoked the 44-day war. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this during a briefing on March 19, answering journalists' questions about whether his presentation of Vladimir Kazimirov's book "Peace for Karabakh" to the Russian president in 2019, similar to the gift of "The Artsakh Issue" by the now-former AGMI director to the US Vice President, constituted a provocation of war.
As a reminder, a week earlier, during a briefing, Pashinyan called the presentation of a book about Artsakh by Edita Gzoyan, former director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute (AGMI), to US Vice President J.D. Vance, who was visiting Armenia, a provocation. Following this action, Gzoyan was removed from her position as head of AGMI, on the Prime Minister's orders.
"I would like to remind you, in response to the frequent question of whether I am preparing to resign, that I did so twice - in 2018 and 2021. As a result, early parliamentary elections were held. And the events you described were presented to the people, and they made their decision," the head of government said.
Regarding the situation with Edita Gzoyan's "forced" resignation as director of AGMI, Pashinyan reiterated his position, emphasizing that a separate foundation or state non-profit organization cannot conduct its own foreign policy, as this is the prerogative of the state. Calling Vance's visit to Armenia a historic event, he recalled that it was made possible by the establishment of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan in August 2025.
Pashinyan noted that the book presented to the US Vice President was titled "The Artsakh Issue," meaning it was about the conflict. In the context of peace, according to the Prime Minister, this could be interpreted as invalidating all previous conversations and discussions, figuratively speaking, suggesting that the conflict is still relevant.
"Yes, I made a decision-the right one. And every statesman must understand that they cannot take actions that contradict the decisions and policies of the authorities. Because this is a state," Pashinyan emphasized.
