ArmInfo. The Yerevan City Hall will tighten controls over public transportation fares. To this end, additional positions will be created in the Public Order Service. The corresponding draft law was adopted at a meeting of the Yerevan City Council on December 23.
In this regard, Armen Galdzhyan, head of the "My Step" faction of the Yerevan City Council, noted that this requirement allegedly arose due to the dissatisfaction of the majority of city residents using public transportation.
In particular, according to Galdzhyan, approximately 80% of passengers pay their fares conscientiously on public transportation and have legitimate complaints about the 20% who don't. "And we, as the city government, are obliged to respond." "Most of those who don't pay are foreigners taking advantage of existing loopholes and minors, primarily schoolchildren," explained the Council of Elders member.
Galjyan noted that the mayor's office must adopt stricter measures and administrative controls, as this is what most city residents expect.
