ArmInfo. The surgery of Archbishop Mikael Ajapakhian, Primate of the Shirak Diocese, has been postponed due to his health condition. Martun Grigoryan, MP from the "I Have the Honor" faction, announced this on his Facebook page.
Specifically, he stated that the surgery was supposed to take place at the Izmirlyan Medical Center, which is why the Primate of the Shirak Diocese was transferred there. "The surgery is currently being postponed due to the Archbishop's other health issues. Doctors are currently working to stabilize his condition," the MP noted.
As a reminder, in early December, Garnik Danielyan, MP from the opposition "Hayastan" faction, announced that Archbishop Mikael Ajapakhian needed urgent surgery. The head of the Shirak Diocese was arrested on June 28 by a ruling of the Yerevan Court of First Instance.
The cleric is accused of calling for the violent overthrow of the government. These calls were made a year ago and were deemed not to constitute a crime by the National Security Service of Armenia.
Nevertheless, according to the Investigative Committee, during the preliminary investigation of the criminal case, clear factual evidence was obtained that M.A. stated in an interview with a news channel that he had repeatedly proposed to two former presidents of the Republic of Armenia to carry out a military coup through generals who held similar positions in the army, police, and national security agencies.
"Thus, M.A., using the media, made public calls aimed at seizing power and violently overthrowing the constitutional order," the statement stated. The charges against M.A. A public criminal prosecution was initiated under Part 2 of Article 422 of the Criminal Code (public calls aimed at seizing power, violating territorial integrity, renunciation of sovereignty or the violent overthrow of the constitutional order).
