ArmInfo. Anyone can become a victim of lynching if one person's most insatiable appetite so desires. Former RA National Assembly member Shake Isayan wrote this on her Facebook page, commenting on the situation surrounding Prosperous Armenia Party leader Gagik Tsarukyan.
According to the former MP, justice is not a circus: "Any authoritarianism is born in the same way: justice is transformed into a spectacle, and courts are replaced by cameras. A cheap spectacle may dominate the front pages of news throughout the day, but it can never replace public trust. The moment citizens begin to believe that justice is no longer selective, and that state institutions serve political interests rather than the law, the greatest victim is no longer the persecuted individual, but the state itself. The most important lesson of this story is not the situation surrounding Gagik Tsarukyan, but the blow dealt to the authority and public trust in the state," Isayan noted.
She added that the authorities' message is clear: anyone can become a victim of lynching, if that's what one person's most insatiable appetite desires. "It was a shame to make Armenian statehood, cherished for millennia and built on inhumane deprivations, a slave to the petty dreams of petty fortune tellers," the former MP emphasized.
As a reminder, the day before, the Yerevan Criminal Court of Primary Instance remanded businessman Gagik Tsarukyan, leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party, in custody for two months. On the evening of July 7, the Investigative Committee of Armenia released footage of Gagik Tsarukyan's arrest, showing National Security Service officers violently detaining the politician and forcing him to the floor when he offered no resistance. This footage, released by the Investigative Committee of Armenia, provoked a negative reaction in Armenian society. Most citizens expressed outrage at the detention methods used against the 70-year-old politician, who is accused of economic crimes. Experts called these actions against the politician and businessman a political reprisal that has nothing to do with justice.
