ArmInfo.Below is a statement by the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA).
Secretary Rubio took the time to endorse the re-election of Nikol Pashinyan, but not to raise issues of urgent concern to American citizens of Armenian heritage:
- Freeing illegally held Armenian hostages (Baku)
- Returning ethnically-cleansed Artsakh refugees
- Releasing jailed Armenian archbishops (Yerevan)
- Ending Azerbaijani occupation of Armenian land
- Reaffirming US Armenian Genocide recognition
- Protecting Armenian Christian sites in Artsakh
Rubio visited Yerevan on May 26 for a short visit that lasted about an hour. Three documents were signed during the visit: the TRIP Framework Agreement, the Strategic Partnership Charter, and the Memorandum of Understanding on Critical Natural Resources. Many experts viewed this move by the American side as a pre-election rally to support Pashinyan's government in the June parliamentary elections.
