ArmInfo. Armenia's withdrawal from the Eurasian Economic Union cannot be discussed until Armenia itself submits a corresponding application and expresses such a desire. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated this in an interview with Aysor.am, commenting on the statement by the Russian Deputy Prime Minister.
"Until Armenia declares such an intention, the issue of our withdrawal cannot be discussed. And we have not expressed such a desire," Mirzoyan emphasized.
When asked when Armenia might make the decision, the Foreign Minister replied: "When the need arises to discuss this issue. I cannot give any timeframe; such an issue is not on our agenda today." Commenting on speculation about a possible freeze on Armenia's membership in the EAEU until a final decision is made, Mirzoyan stated: "This cannot happen. This is an organization where decisions are made by consensus, including Armenia's vote. How is this even possible?"
On January 9, 2025, the Armenian government approved a draft law on the start of the process of joining the European Union, proposed by the "Eurakve" civic initiative. The draft was submitted to the Armenian parliament for approval. On March 26, the parliament adopted it in its final reading and sent it to the president for signature. The document was signed on April 4 of that year. Moscow stated that Russia had conveyed to Armenia that simultaneous membership in the Eurasian Economic Union and the European Union was impossible. .
