ArmInfo. Karine Smbatyan, the principal of a school in the village of Sardarpat in the Armavir region, resigned due to the authorities' demand to remove the Artsakh flag from the school's "Corner of Glory."
"My dismissal or loss of my position is the smallest price to pay for everything I believe in and serve. I cannot remain silent when the spiritual and patriotic values of our children are under attack. Mr. Governor, you can remove me from my position, but you cannot remove patriotism from my heart," the principal wrote on her Facebook page. According to Armenian media, the flag was sent from the Hadrut region to the students of Sardarpat as a token of gratitude for the students' sending sweets to soldiers from Hadrut during both the April War of 2016 and the 44-Day War of 2020. Initially, the mayor of Sardarpat tried unsuccessfully to force the principal to remove the flag, and then the regional governor himself, who gave Smbatyan a choice: either the flag or her position. The school principal chose the flag and resigned. It should be noted that it has been previously reported that, at the request of the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Armenia, Zhanna Andreasyan, "Corners of Glory" are being removed from schools.
