Legal Expert: Armenian authorities unable and unwilling to  effectively counter false Azerbaijani narratives

ArmInfo. The Armenian authorities are unable and unwilling to effectively counter false Azerbaijani narratives because they operate according to a logic of unilateral concessions, abandoning principles and integrity. This statement was made by legal expert Gohar Meloyan, responding to statements made by  Azerbaijani Human Rights Commissioner Sabina Aliyeva regarding the  "events of 1918."

The latter previously called on "international organizations and UN member states to take a principled stance on the issue of ethnic cleansing and crimes against Azerbaijanis, and to recognize the events of 1918 as genocide."

"The Azerbaijani authorities continue to persistently pursue a policy  of using 'genocidal' characterizations of the Armenian people and  Armenia in every available international forum. A clear example of  this is the statements made by the Azerbaijani Ombudsman regarding  the events of 1918," Meloyan emphasized. The legal expert expressed  her conviction that the Azerbaijani authorities do not intend to stop  there and will continue their consistent efforts to spread propaganda  against Armenia and the Armenian people.

"Under these circumstances, the Armenian authorities are unable and  unwilling to effectively counter false Azerbaijani narratives, as  they act according to a logic of unilateral concessions, abandoning  principles and integrity, thereby demonstrating one of the main  manifestations of their weakness. The expected change of power on  June 7 during the parliamentary elections, based on the free will of  the Armenian people, and the government that will be formed  thereafter by the Strong Armenia party under the leadership of Samvel  Karapetyan, will be able to quickly restore Armenia's economy and  security and effectively counter false Azerbaijani propaganda. A  lasting peace is possible only with a strong and resilient identity,"  the legal expert concluded. As a reminder, on March 26, Armenian  Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, answering journalists' questions,  stated that as "prime minister, he rejects the agenda of restoring  historical justice because he believes that a just reality must be  pursued." Speaking about whether ethnic cleansing was committed in  Nagorno-Karabakh by Azerbaijan, Pashinyan noted that he generally  considers the rhetoric of "ethnic cleansing" to be harmful.
