
ArmInfo. Protecting children in the digital environment has become one of the government's strategic priorities. This was stated by Armenian Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan during a roundtable discussion on "Children's Online Safety: The Role of the State and Telecom Operators," organized as part of the Telecommunications Week 2026 events.
In this regard, the minister reported that work in this area has significantly intensified over the past year.
He noted that this problem is interdepartmental in nature and requires a systemic approach involving various government agencies. In this context, according to the minister, close cooperation has been initiated with private and international partners, including the Izmirlian Foundation and UNICEF. An expert group will be created to conduct an in-depth study and present a package of proposals and an action roadmap, including various scenarios. Mkhitar Hayrapetyan noted that the proposed package will include a wide range of solutions, from awareness-raising methods to possible technical and legislative restrictions. "All these measures are aimed at enhancing the online protection of minors," he said.
During the discussion, the key role of telecom operators as partners of the state in the development and implementation of technical and technological solutions was emphasized. Hayrapetyan also noted the importance of studying international experience and collaborating with leading platforms to ensure the availability of existing tools in Armenia.
Participants emphasized the need for close collaboration between the public and private sectors to develop effective and comprehensive solutions. Following the event, further joint steps aimed at deepening cooperation in ensuring children's online safety were outlined.
