ArmInfo. Representatives of the "Wings of Unity" political initiative held a protest outside the Armenian government building, where they handed over a statement with satellite images and coordinates confirming that Azerbaijan has advanced its positions and invaded the Republic's sovereign territories. Specifically, in the direction of Vayots Dzor and Gegharkunik.
During the protest, Shahen Harutyunyan, leader of the Shant party (which will participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections along with the Wings of Unity initiative - ed.), explained to reporters that their goal is to be consistent in their actions and continue to raise issues that concern them, demanding clear answers.
According to Harutyunyan, for them, this is not a political struggle, but a question of Armenia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
"These issues must always be on the agenda so that we can find an answer to why this is happening. Taking this opportunity, I appeal to all citizens, especially those planning to vote for the ruling Civil Contract party, and remind them that this is a matter of our independence. We must not be indifferent to such issues," the Shant party leader noted.
For his part, Vardan Pashayan, a member of the initiative, explained that today they are directing their question to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. According to Pashayan, the issue isn't so much how much progress the Azerbaijanis have made or what they're doing in these positions, but rather that this is Armenia's sovereign territory, and such actions must be assessed. Furthermore, as the initiative member noted, the issue concerns the safety of residents of border villages. "What's happening now is very similar to the scenario they used in Artsakh. That is, while the authorities were insisting that everything was peaceful and nothing was happening, Azerbaijan was strengthening its position. With this action, we intend to prevent further Azerbaijani incursions into Armenia's sovereign territories," the initiative member concluded.
As a reminder, members of the initiative previously held a protest outside the Armenian Ministry of Defense and handed over a statement with satellite images and coordinates confirming that Azerbaijanis had invaded Armenia's sovereign territory. However, the Ministry of Defense denied these claims, stating that Azerbaijani forces had made no advance and that the new Azerbaijani position was located on their own territory. While denying this, the Ministry of Defense apparently unwittingly confirmed the enemy's advance.
The protest was organized after Arman Tatoyan, leader of the Wings of Unity political initiative, announced that a new Azerbaijani incursion had been detected on Armenia's sovereign territory, about which the Armenian authorities had failed to inform the public. Specifically, he reported that, according to available information, they have established combat positions in Vardenis, as well as points for small arms, mortars, and other large-caliber weapons. Communications have been established, the Sotk gold mine in the Vardenis community is directly targeted, solar panels have been installed, operational-tactical and strategic roads have been constructed, and shelters have been constructed through which they can penetrate deep into Armenian territory. A similar situation, according to Tatoyan, is observed in Jermuk, where positions designed for mortars have been built. However, on the same day, Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan, speaking from the podium of the country's parliament, dismissed Tatoyan's claims as lies.
