ArmInfo. On its anniversary, March 7, the Stepanakert Russian Drama Theater (SRDT) will present a premiere television play based on the works of Anton Pavlovich Chekhov.
As reported by the SRDT press service on its Facebook page, the teleplay will be based on Chekhov's vaudevilles "The Bear" and "The Proposal." Armen Markaryan will direct the play, and Hovhannes Hakobyan will produce the television version. "The play 'A la Chekhov' is a theatrical tribute to Chekhov's vibrant, subtle, and ironic drama, where the lightness of comedy coexists with deep psychological insight and recognizable human characters. In the television version, the classic plots take on a new meaning, preserving the atmosphere of Russian theatrical tradition while simultaneously opening it up to modern audiences," noted the SRDT.
According to the source, the play will star Emma Ogoltsova, Andronik Romanov, and Anton Aghajanyan. The premiere will take place on March 7 at 9:00 PM on the theater's website, as well as on leading international video platforms.
As a reminder, the SRDT was founded on March 7, 2022, in Stepanakert, the capital of Artsakh. The theater's founder and director is Alexander Bordov, and its artistic director and chief director is Zhanna Krikorova. The theater was revived in Armenia after the ethnic cleansing in Artsakh in 2023 and continued its activities at the initial stage with the support of the Dialogue organization, cooperation with which has now ended.
