ArmInfo. Law enforcement officers are conducting a search in the office of Armen Charchyan, director of the Izmirlyan Medical Center. Lawyer Erik Aleksanyan announced this on his Facebook page.
The Investigative Committee of Armenia confirmed the search to ArmInfo but did not specify the criminal case under which it is being conducted. Further details were unavailable at the time of publication.
As a reminder, Armen Charchyan, a well-known physician and former National Assembly member from the opposition Armenia faction, was previously charged with voter bribery and coercing Izmirlyan Medical Center employees to vote in the snap elections to the National Assembly on June 20, 2021. A month after being released on bail, he was arrested for a second time, after which he was released on bail in December 2021. He resigned his parliamentary mandate in 2023. On February 5, 2024, the Yerevan Criminal Court of General Jurisdiction, presided over by Judge Vahe Misakyan, found Armen Charchyan guilty of the alleged offense and sentenced him to four years in prison. However, given Charchyan's time in custody, the final sentence was imposed: imprisonment for three years, seven months, and 13 days.
The court, however, decided not to impose a suspended sentence on Charchyan, setting a probationary period of three years. The prosecutor's office therefore filed a motion with the Court of Appeals, but the court rejected it, partially granting the defense's motion to reduce the probationary period from three years to one year.
