ArmInfo. The Yazidi community of Armenia faces serious challenges in preserving its language. Rustam Bakoyan, a member of parliament from the ruling :Civil Contract party", made this statement during a government hour on February 11, in his address to Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan.
He noted that in a community of 30,000-40,000 Yazidis, only a couple of people remain who speak their native language fluently. In this regard, the parliamentarian emphasized the need to take appropriate steps. Bakoyan also noted that there is not a single dance or vocal ensemble in the community to preserve Yazidi culture. Addressing the Minister, he proposed discussing the problems related to preserving national identity in a separate format.
Presenting the state programs implemented for the development of national minorities in Armenia, Zhanna Andreasyan pointed out that the proposal was entirely appropriate. However, she emphasized that the discussions must take place with the participation of the community, as without their involvement, the existing issues cannot be effectively resolved.
