ArmInfo. By the end of 2025, Yerevan's green spaces increased by 14.1 hectares. Armen Begoyan, head of the Greening and Environmental Protection State Non- Commercial Organization (SNCO), announced this during a working meeting on February 9.
In particular, he reported that 5,044 valuable and mature trees, 35,186 bushes, 30,000 of which were evergreen, and 328,400 flowers, including roses, were planted in Yerevan during the reporting year. The organization cultivated 56,495 plant varieties and constructed and modernized 34,873 meters of water pipes.
"Therefore, we can record an important increase in the area of green spaces in Yerevan by 60 hectares over the past 3.5 years," Begoyan said. According to the head of the SNCO, the city's green spaces currently cover 910 hectares, a figure comparable to the best years of the Soviet era. "Therefore, we can say that Yerevan has completely restored its lost green spaces.
Of course, there are areas where restoration was impossible, as these areas have already been developed and are used for other purposes. Therefore, we have created new green spaces in various other areas as compensation," Begoyan explained.
In this regard, Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan noted that despite the achieved results, a significant amount of work remains to be done. He cited the example of the Nor Nork administrative district, where tree planting is expected on a 35-hectare site. He instructed Armen Begoyan to develop a schedule of planned work in this regard.
Nevertheless, environmentalists are inclined to believe that the high levels of air pollution in the capital are due to the failure to comply with environmental standards during large-scale construction, the felling of large, healthy trees by the city administration, and the increase in the number of cars.
And according to the latest survey (January 30, 2026) by the consulting company MPG (the official representative in Armenia of the International Gallup Association), Yerevan residents named air pollution/environmental problems as the main problem of the Armenian capital.
