ArmInfo. In Yerevan, the unveiling ceremony of a monument honoring Robert Abajyan, a junior sergeant in the NKR Defense Army and a hero of the 2016 April Four-Day War, was held at secondary school No. 147 which bears his name. On the night of April 2, 2016, Azerbaijan initiated a large-scale military aggression against Artsakh, which lasted four days.
The school's teachers emphasized that Robert Abajyan's image has become an integral part of the school-quiet yet speaking, stern yet inspiring. They expressed their conviction that his life serves as a definitive example of duty.
Abajyan's grandmother, Anaida Robertovna, in turn, recalled that on January 28, the Armenian people celebrate the Army Day. "Our children were true soldiers, and this is their day-those who gave their lives defending the Motherland. They left us our small country, telling us that now we must be the protectors of our land," the hero's grandmother emphasized through tears.
Following the unveiling of the monument, the Armenian national anthem was played. The students recited poems dedicated to the defense of the Motherland and called for the memory of all those who gave their lives. They also listed the names of their school's students who died in the war ,followed by a minute of silence to honor their memory.
Recall, Robert Abajyan was posthumously awarded the title "Hero of Artsakh" for his courage during the four-day war in April 2016. The wounded 19-year-old soldier fought alone against Azerbaijani forces, blowing himself and the approaching enemy up with a grenade.
The war was marked by war crimes, gross violations of the laws and customs of war, and international humanitarian law.
