ArmInfo. Armenia must develop and implement mechanisms to prevent dishonest and dismissed judges from returning to the bench, as stated by RA Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan during a panel discussion on the sidelines of a conference marking Judicial System Day on January 12.
According to her, such judges often oversee cases for 5-7 years, after which it takes followed by an additional year just to reach a verdict. As a result, the number of people arrested in the country has increased. However, as the Minister noted, a positive trend has been observed in the past few years, indicating that the number of convicted judges in the country has exceeded the number of those arrested by 24. Galyan pointed out the need to impose disciplinary liability on judges who drag out legal proceedings for years.
