ArmInfo. The final meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Khachatur Abovyan Armenian State Pedagogical University was held, chaired by RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, Acting Rector Lilit Mkrtchyan presented the university's key achievements for the current year, noting the university's improved position in the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities and EduRank. She emphasized the importance of improving undergraduate and graduate programs, ensuring the comparability of results and methodological components, and implementing changes that align with the university's priorities and strategic goals.
Zhanna Andreasyan, in turn, emphasized that these changes must be based on the logic of the state standard of general education, taking into account the modern requirements of schools. According to the minister, it is essential to train teachers equipped with the necessary tools: assessment and electronic systems, teaching methods, and sufficient skills and knowledge to teach in accordance with the requirements of the state standard for general education.
Zhanna Andreasyan also emphasized the need for educational programs to comply with the new Law on Higher Education and Science and the agreement signed with the Institute of Education at University College London as part of the Academic City program, emphasizing that the university's future strategic program should also be based on this principle.
The meeting also reviewed the analysis and statistics of the number of students admitted to the Bachelor's degree in Natural Sciences and their subsequent teaching careers, as well as the need for possible changes to the procedure, in particular, establishing a mandatory requirement for three years of teaching experience in a school.
University Vice-Rector Naira Safaryan noted that the university has revised the format of teaching internships, emphasizing the role of research and project work, and planned changes to the curricula of specializations and master's programs for next year. At the meeting of the Board of Trustees, the Pedagogical University's activity report for 2025 and the budget estimate for 2026 were discussed and approved.
As a reminder, the university's rector, Srbuhi Gevorkyan, was detained on October 17. According to a statement from the Anti-Corruption Committee, the detention was part of a criminal investigation being conducted by the committee. The university's leadership is accused of creating and leading a criminal organization consisting of university employees, committing embezzlement and fraud on an especially large scale, and accepting bribes. Several other university employees have also been arrested as part of the criminal investigation.
