ArmInfo. The results of the three-year Living Landscapes for Market Development in Armenia (LILA) project, aimed at improving the living conditions of the country's rural population through the conservation and sustainable use of the natural resources of Armenia's mountain ecosystems, were summarized in Yerevan.
As reported to ArmInfo by the press service of WWF-Armenia, the total project budget for three years was 2.5 million Swiss francs ($3.1 million), of which 1.5 million ($1.86 million) was allocated for the economic development component and 1 million ($1.24 million) for the environmental protection component. The project aimed to develop two key areas: sustainable and inclusive tourism, wild harvesting, and food value chains; activities aimed at environmental management, energy efficiency, solar energy solutions, and the sustainable conservation of natural landscapes. The project was funded by the Swiss government through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and implemented by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Caucasus and Armenia chapters in partnership with the NGO Strategic Development Agency (SDA). LILA operates in seven large communities in Tavush, Lori, Vayots Dzor, and Syunik.
LILA's key focus was sustainable and inclusive tourism and related value chains in wild plant collection and food supply. Additionally, by supporting local governments and state institutions in natural resource management and climate change adaptation, the project created favorable conditions for achieving environmental goals.
