ArmInfo. Employees of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia have thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large consignment of cigarettes into the country.
According to the source, three trucks arriving at the Agarak customs checkpoint from the Islamic Republic of Iran were recently subjected to customs inspection. X-ray scanning revealed that the trucks, transporting cement across the state border, contained tobacco products concealed from customs control. The cigarettes were concealed under cement bins in pre-prepared hiding places, using welding. According to the information received, SRC officers, using a special cutting tool, extracted a total of 6,530 packs of cigarettes without excise stamps from the hiding places of the trucks.
Thus, an attempt to illegally import tobacco products was thwarted, and the discovered cigarettes were confiscated. Customs protocols have been drawn up against three citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran under the relevant article of the Law "On Customs Regulation."
The case materials have been sent to the Legal Department of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia for further proceedings.
It should be noted that over the past month, attempts to import undeclared and concealed cigarettes totaling 31,830 packs were prevented at the Agarak customs checkpoint.
