ArmInfo. Armenia will establish a new memorial day: Day of Remembrance and Sorrow for Those Who Died for the Motherland. At its plenary session on November 11, the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia will discuss in the first reading amendments to the law "On Holidays and Commemorative Dates" submitted by MPs Ruben Rubinyan and Gegham Nazaryan.
Introducing the amendments, Ruben Rubinyan noted that the day will be celebrated on January 27 and will be dedicated to the memory of those who died during all wars. This day will be a non-working day in the calendar of holidays and memorial days. The MP emphasized that the country has not had a national memorial day for 25 years. "Considering the events of recent years-in 2020 and later, when various events occurred, we had casualties. It's no secret that there were various military events before that: the April War, border incidents, attacks, as well as losses among military personnel during service. I believe it's necessary to establish a memorial day during which we will honor the memory of those who died defending the Motherland," Rubinyan said, adding that the day was chosen for the simple reason that it was necessary to choose a date unrelated to a specific military event. "We chose January 27-the day before Army Day- because traditionally, officials visit Yerablur on January 28," the MP added.
