ArmInfo. The criminal prosecution against the Tashir Group owner Samvel Karapetyan and the actions he is accused of have completely defied legal logic, as the barrier of political persecution has not yet been overcome, as noted in a statement by Samvel Karapetyan's lawyers, published on Facebook.
The defense considered it necessary to inform the public that the Cassation Court has developed an innovative "legal" mechanism. "Under this mechanism, the Deputy Prosecutor General's appeal against the legal positions outlined in previous court decisions extending his pretrial detention was accepted for proceedings, while our cassation appeal, which argued the illegality of the two-month extension of his pretrial detention and the subsequent decision, was rejected for a number of legal reasons. The Cassation Court will examine these actions separately in the context of denial of justice and political persecution," the lawyers noted in a statement.
They also pointed out that the investigative team, consisting of 53 investigators, has once again demonstrated clear and decisive inaction since October 16, failing to take any procedural steps.
The lawyers also recalled that on October 16, 2025, the Anti-Corruption Court partially granted the investigative team's motion to extend Karapetyan's pretrial detention for one month. "The court once again found a lack of reasonable suspicion regarding the economic crimes Samvel Karapetyan was accused in July. The investigative team did not close the case, but apparently included new information in the motion. Moreover, the court also found a lack of even reasonable suspicion in the new economic charges brought on October 7, 2025," the defense noted.
