ArmInfo. By leaving the CSTO, the Armenian authorities are not looking to join another security system, such as NATO, but intend to attain non-aligned status, which they plan to enshrine in the country's new Constitution.
Edmon Marukyan, leader of the Bright Armenia party, expressed this viewpoint regarding the possible consequences of the ruling regime's actions in meeting Azerbaijan's latest demands. He clarified that Armenia will be declared a non-aligned country through a constitutional referendum, and would subsequently withdraw from the CSTO permanently. "Additionally, it will not be integrated into any other coalition security system. Thus, Armenia will become a 'disabled' country, if, of course, there is anything left of the state after all this," the party leader noted. According to Marukyan, the propaganda against the CSTO and Russia unleashed by Armenian authorities is actually aimed at turning the country into a "pocket state." "That is, all this is being done to promote Turkish-Azerbaijani narratives. I can see that the authorities are achieving success in this," Marukyan noted.
Meanwhile, he mentioned that for 30 years, the country had a common security system with Russia and received weapons from them. In this regard, the party leader emphasized that instead of consistently worsening relations with its allies, the country should focus on developing its existing security system, as the search for an alternative has already failed. "The country's ruling power has failed to understand the current world order, geopolitical realities, the situation in the region, and new approaches to ensure security in the era of new technologies and defense mechanisms. And the country's attempt to choose a new foreign policy vector has ultimately has proven futile, as this global process will end after the fundamental shifts happening in the world today," the party leader noted.
In conclusion, Marukyan emphasized that today, all of the country's efforts must be focused on finding new mechanisms to ensure its security, as the entire world is preparing for war, while Armenia continues to talk about peace.
