
ArmInfo. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is happy and grateful to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian for an objective assessment of the Washington agreements, as stated by Pashinyan during a joint briefing with Pezeshkian on August 19 in Yerevan.
According to the Prime Minister, issues related to regional peace and unblocking communications were discussed in detail with Pezeshkian. Pashinyan stressed that Yerevan's stance is presented within the framework of the "Crossroads of Peace" initiative.
"The Republic of Armenia and the entire Armenian people highly appreciate Iran's clear position regarding the territorial integrity, sovereignty and inviolability of the country's borders. The inviolability of international borders and uninterrupted communication between our states is of vital importance for Armenia and Iran," he said.
In this regard, according to Pashinyan, he presented to Pezeshkian the details of the peace agreement with Azerbaijan signed in Washington on August 8. "This process is aimed at opening up greater opportunities for the economic development of the entire region," he emphasized.
Pashinyan stated that one of the key agreements with Azerbaijan, is about reopening of regional communications, with full mutual respect for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and jurisdiction of the countries. "In practice, this will open new doors for railway transportation between Armenia and Iran, including through the Nakhichevan-Julfa railway. Iran will gain railway access from the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea," the Armenian Prime Minister noted. Nikol Pashinyan assured that communication routes passing through Armenia will be exclusively under the jurisdiction of the Republic of Armenia; security will be ensured by Armenia and not by any third country.
