ArmInfo. The situation with public transport will not be ideal either today or in September, as stated by Yerevan Vice Mayor Suren Grigoryan during a press conference on August 4, while commenting on the unsatisfactory work of the city's transport system in response to journalists' inquiries.
"When we say that we need 249 18-meter buses, it means that the existing rolling stock is not capable of ensuring the proper quality of public transport," he said. When asked about the timing of the purchase of new buses, Grigoryan found it difficult to answer, noting that the relevant tender process has not yet been announced.
He also reported that inspectors equipped with the appropriate equipment have been monitoring the payment process in public transport for several days now. "Here, our goal is not to resolve the issue of replenishing the budget through fines, but rather to ensure that citizens pay for the services they use," the vice-mayor noted. Additionally, Grigoryan expressed confidence that the inspectors' efforts will compel those citizens who have demonstrated an irresponsible approach in the past to changer their behavior.
