ECHR requests information from Armenia about detention conditions of   arrested mother of three minor children

ArmInfo.  The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has sent a request to the competent authorities of Armenia regarding the detention conditions of a mother of three minors, including an eight-month-old baby, in the Abovyan  Penitentiary Institution. The mother, Liana Harutyunyan, was  previously arrested for three months for her involvement  in  organizing illegal migration while the main defendants in the case  remain free, as reported by lawyer Zaruhi Postanjyan, who represents  the interests of the prisoner, on her Facebook page.

The lawyer pointed out that Minister of Justice of Armenia Srbuhi  Galyan visited Harutyunyan, who is currently in the medical center of  the institution,  a few days after her arrest. Postanjyan linked this  visit to the ECHR request. She also pointed out that after visiting  the detainee, the Minister stated that the conditions of detention  were good, including for children.

"However, it must be understood that this is not the case. Earlier, a  photo was circulated, and after studying it, we found that the  conditions in which Liana Harutyunyan and her child are being held do  not meet the standards for the care of such young children,"  Postanjyan emphasized.

In this vein, she expressed her belief that the publication of this  photo is an attempt by the Armenian authorities to justify their  actions. However, she noted that they have evidence that the child's  condition has worsened due to poor detention conditions.

  Postanjyan also drew attention to the fact that a hearing in the  court of first instance is scheduled  for July 17. She said that the  lawyer's motion to release Liana Harutyunyan from custody should be  discussed at this hearing. "A fair trial should continue in a timely  manner, without delays or restrictions on Liana Harutyunyan's  fundamental rights," Postanjyan concluded.
