ArmInfo.The Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia has revealed cases of abuse of office, official forgery and complicity in the commission of the above-mentioned crimes by 11 police officers.
According to the information provided by the department, on August 16, 2024, four officers of the operational group of the Vagharshapat police department and five patrol battalion of the Armavir regional police patrol service, having received a call, arrived at a restaurant complex in the Parakar community and learned of a case of hooliganism involving guests, accompanied by bodily injuries. They noticed a number of clues, including blood stains, which they reported to the official acting head of the Vagharshapat department.
However, the latter illegally instructed the police officers to return to the police department instead of performing their official duties, and the police officers who processed the call falsified the relevant documents.
As a result, the above-mentioned police officers failed to fulfill their official duties - they did not take measures to find out information about the alleged perpetrators and victims, did not ensure the safety of the scene of the incident and evidence, did not draw up a crime report, as a result of which the severity of the crime and the perpetrators were not identified.
The official, who served as the head of the Vagharshapat police department, was charged under Article 441, Part 2, Clause 4 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. Suspension of powers and house arrest were applied to him as a combined preventive measure. Another 10 police officers were charged under Article 441, Part 2, Clause 4, Article 445, Part 1, Articles 46-441, Part 2, Clause 4 and Part 1 of Article 46-445. A combined preventive measure in the form of a written undertaking not to leave and suspension of powers was chosen for the accused. The preliminary investigation of the criminal case has been completed, the case materials together with the indictment have been sent to the Anti-Corruption Court of the Republic of Armenia.
