Serbian language study group formed at YSU

ArmInfo. A group for studying the Serbian language is being formed at Yerevan State University (YSU). This was stated by Artur Martirosyan, Deputy Minister of  Education, Science, Culture and Sports (MONKS) of Armenia, at the  Chamber Music House on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the  establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Serbia.

In this regard, in his welcoming speech, the Deputy Minister  emphasized that Armenian-Serbian relations have significantly  strengthened over the past three decades, contributing to the  deepening of cooperation in various fields.

"The developing multilateral relations have become possible thanks to  cultural and public figures who have become a bridge of friendship  between our peoples and states. I would especially like to emphasize  the successful cultural cooperation in the fields of literature,  music, theater and joint film production. Armenian and Serbian  authors are regularly translated, which allows the peoples of both  countries to get acquainted with each other's literary achievements,"  Martirosyan noted, adding that cooperation is actively developing  within the framework of cultural events and international festivals  with the participation of Armenian and Serbian cultural figures.

Martirosyan also expressed hope that cooperation between the  countries will continue to develop and become more effective for the  benefit of the prosperity and well-being of both Armenia and Serbia.

As reported by the press service of the Ministry of Education and  Science, a concert was held as part of the celebration, during which  the Honored Artist of Armenia, pianist Hayk Melikyan performed works  by famous Serbian composers Kornelija Stankovic, Marko Tajcevic,  Miloje Milojevic, Stevan Mokranjac, Vasile Mokranjac, Ljubica Maric,  Dejan Despic, as well as Armenian composers Alexander Harutyunyan,  Hayk Melikyan himself, Elen Yolchyan and the works of Komitas.

It is noted that the festive event was attended by the Ambassador of  Serbia to Armenia Tatjana Panajotovich-Cvetkovic, as well as  high-ranking government officials of Serbia.

Back in 2022, at a joint meeting, Artur Martirosyan and the Serbian  Ambassador discussed the possibilities of teaching Serbian and  Armenian languages, giving lectures and opening departments at  universities in Armenia and Serbia. The interlocutors also discussed  a number of general issues related to cooperation in such areas as  translating fiction, training translators, and implementing joint  research in the field of linguistics.
