
ArmInfo.The preliminary investigation into the criminal case initiated on the alleged case of espionage for Azerbaijan has been completed. This is stated in the message of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.
According to the source, based on the data received, it turned out that Stepanakert resident S.G. (Sarkis Galstyan - ed.) for three years transferred information containing state secrets to the Azerbaijani special services, thereby acting to the detriment of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Armenia. As noted in the message of the Investigative Committee, in 2018-2023, holding various positions in Artsakh, in November 2020 S.G. contacted a person who is an employee of the Azerbaijani special service, from whom he received an offer to carry out espionage. To this "initiative" S.G. agreed, after which he received the code name "Sarkhan". During 2020-2023 he collected and transmitted to the enemy information about the population of Artsakh, its moods, the Artsakh issue regarding the positions of representatives of the authorities of the Republic of Armenia and Artsakh, possible military support from Armenia during the September events of 2023, the availability of food and other material resources necessary to meet the needs of the population and army , possible resistance in the event of an armed attack and other information of a similar nature. After the exodus of the Armenian population from Artsakh in September 2023, S.G. a position was promised in Stepanakert, and he and his wife remained in the city, where he continued his criminal activities, passing on the information he had to the intelligence services. He was arrested immediately after moving to the territory of the Republic of Armenia.
Based on the sufficient facts obtained, S.G. was charged under Part 1 of Art. 424 of the Criminal Code of RA. Arrest was used as a preventive measure. The case, together with the indictment, is sent for approval to the supervisory prosecutor and its presentation to the court.
