ArmInfo. All security challenges and alarming trends in the South Caucasus are mainly caused by the destructive activity of the "Westerners." This was stated on May 30 during a weekly briefing by official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"Baku is also talking about this. And we give an appropriate assessment. Why are Westerners doing so? They need to shake up the situation. The countries of the region, from their point of view, should not establish ties with each other, but quarrel Neighbors should not deal with economy and trade, but clarify endless relations with each other. They need to squeeze Russia out of the South Caucasus," said the Russian diplomat, while expressing the conviction that that Baku also notices such trends and other capitals and are largely agree with this.
To clarify how the protests in Yerevan will affect the process of the so-called delimitation of the Armenian- Azerbaijani border, Zakharova noted that Moscow is monitoring the beginning of the practical phase of work on delimiting the state border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. She added that this work is important from the point of view of establishing regional stability.
"We support the settlement of all delimitation works exclusively through political and diplomatic means. We proceed from the fact that agreements should be sustainable, balanced and mutually acceptable and serve to achieve lasting peace in the region," she noted, once again pointing out Moscow's readiness to provide a consultative assistance to the parties based on trilateral agreements between the leaders of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan.
"As for the protests in Yerevan and the regions of the republic, as far as one can judge, the protesters' dissatisfaction is caused by the fact that, in their opinion, the delimitation of enclave villages is not being carried out entirely fairly. In any case, we consider political protests in Armenia as an internal matter of this country. For our part, we are aimed at developing friendly, full-fledged ties with the people of Armenia, which are manifested, among other things, in the form of real assistance, which we provide immediately as soon as a neighboring state is in trouble," noted the representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Protests in Armenia broke out against the backdrop of unilateral concessions by the Armenian authorities to Azerbaijan in the process of so-called delimitation. Proteststants took to the streets demanding the resignation of the current Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan.
