ArmInfo. Armenia's Permanent Representative to the UN, Mher Markaryan, has sent a letter to the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, regarding the threats of the use of force against Armenia and territorial ambitions voiced by the Azerbaijani President on April 20.
In a letter to the Secretary-General, the Armenian diplomat drew attention to the propaganda of violence, Armenophobia and militant ideology on the part of Azerbaijan, which poses a threat not only to the right of the Armenian people to live in their homeland, but also to the peace and security of the entire region. The Permanent Representative of Armenia stressed that this clearly proves that the aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan in the context of the global epidemic was an attempt to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict by force of arms.
Markaryan also noted that Azerbaijan's territorial claims, threats to create the so-called "Zangezur corridor" by force are untenable both from the point of view of history and from the point of view of international law, and go against the provisions of the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020 to the rhetoric of 2020. He also pointed to Azerbaijan's continuing violations of international humanitarian law: the detention of many Armenian prisoners of war, the propaganda of violence and racism against Armenians in the Baku "park ", which is a clear imitation of Nazi propaganda.
"Armenia condemns provocative rhetoric, racist ideology, threats of the use of force that could destabilize the situation in the region, and confirms the need for full, immediate and conscientious implementation of obligations under international humanitarian law, in particular the release of prisoners of war and other hostages," Markaryan concluded.
It should be noted that President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said in an interview with Azerbaijani television on April 20 that the creation of the Zangezur Corridor fully meets Azerbaijan's national, historical and future interests. "We will fulfill the task of implementing the Zangezur corridor, whether Armenia wants it or not. If Armenia wants, it can be solved simply, if it does not want, we will solve it by force. I said before the war and during the war that they must leave our land of their own free will, or we will throw them out. And so it happened. The same will happen with the Zangezur corridor. The Azerbaijani people will return to the captured Zangezur after 101 years, " Aliyev said.
