On the eve of the 106th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, the  Armenian President addressed the leaders of more than two dozen  countries and international organizations

On the eve of the 106th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, Armenian President Armen Sarkissian sent letters to the leaders of more than two dozen countries and international organizations, including France, Russia,  the United States, Germany, Italy, Argentina, Lebanon, Greece, Pope  Francis, the Kings of the Netherlands, Belgium, and Sweden.

 The Armenian President expressed gratitude to the presidents,  parliaments, public, spiritual, scientific and academic circles for  the recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide in various  aspects, as well as for the solidarity shown to the Armenian people.

In a letter addressed to French President Emmanuel Macron, Sarkisian,  in particular, noted. "The recognition of the Armenian Genocide, the  participation of the French President in the ceremony dedicated to  the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in Yerevan, and the  declaration of April 24 as the Armenian Genocide Memorial Day by your  decree once again emphasize France's solidarity and commitment to  universal values."

In a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the President of the  Republic of Armenia noted: "Armenia highly appreciates the efforts of  Russia and your personal efforts in the recognition and condemnation  of the Armenian Genocide. The recognition of the Armenian Genocide,  the Declaration on the recognition of April 24 as the Armenian  Genocide Memorial Day, the statement of the State Duma on the  occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, and your  participation in the ceremony dedicated to the 100th anniversary of  the Armenian Genocide once again emphasize Russia's commitment to  universal values."

In a letter to US President Joe Biden, Sarkisian praised the  decisions of the two chambers of the US Congress from 2019. "In  Armenia, we welcomed the adoption by the US House of Representatives  in 2019 of a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide, which was  followed by a unanimous decision of the US Senate. Recognition of the  Armenian Genocide means recognition of a crime against humanity. We  are convinced that one of the instruments of genocide prevention and  genocide policy is their recognition and condemnation.

We look forward to renewing your commitment to promoting historical  justice and preventing new genocides, " Sarkisian said.

In his letters, the President of Armenia expressed confidence that  the process of international recognition and condemnation of the  Armenian Genocide will contribute to the prevention and elimination  of genocide as a crime against humanity and impunity throughout the  world.
