"It is with deep sorrow that I inform you that the hero of Artsakh,  Major General Arkady Ter-Tadevosyan, has passed away. Our favorite  Commando, " political analyst Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan said.

Note that the Commando was born on May 22, 1939. After studying at  the Baku Combined Arms Command School, and then the Leningrad  Military Academy of Transport and Home Front, he served in  Afghanistan, Germany, Czechoslovakia, Belarus, and since 1987 - in  Armenia.

Since 1988-took an active part in the training of the militia. In  1990, he became a member of the Sasunzi David volunteer group. The  detachment defended the Armenian border villages, which were  constantly attacked and shelled by Azerbaijani militants.

May 6, 1991-appointed head of the department of non-military training  of the Defense Committee - the first state military department under  the Government of the Republic of Armenia, in difficult political  conditions, conducts targeted work in educational institutions of the  republic, in the former DOSAAF and other organizations, studies the  experience of states that have gained independence in the  construction of the armed forces.

July 13, 1991-Colonel Ter-Tadevosyan and Lieutenant Colonel Felix  Gzoghlian went to Artsakh, where they were engaged in training the  militia.

In Afghanistan, he was nicknamed the "Mountain Fox" in recognition of  his skill in mountain warfare. In Artsakh, for the special method of  special training, he was nicknamed "Commando".

In 1992, Arkady Ter-Tadevosyan developed and conducted a brilliant  operation to liberate Shusha (May 8-9). Developed by Arkady  Ter-Tadevosyan in the strictest secrecy, the plan to storm the  fortress of Shushi (codenamed Operation Wedding in the Mountains)  became the crown of his military biography and the first large-scale  action carried out under the leadership of the unified Defense  Headquarters of the Nagorno - Karabakh Republic. On May 9, 1992,  Armenian military units, to the amazement of the enemy who held the  height (Khattab later admits this in his interviews), captured the  main enemy stronghold in Nagorno-Karabakh. It was from the heights of  Shushi that the constant shelling of the NKR capital, Stepanakert,  was conducted. Thanks to the commanding talent of Arkady  Ter-Tadevosyan and the potential of the Artsakh Defense Army and the  General Staff of the FSA, the Shusha operation was carried out with  minimal losses. May 25, 1992 - he was promoted to the rank of Major  General.

Arkady Ter-Tadevosyan made an invaluable contribution to the creation  of the NKR Defense Army. He continued to use his knowledge and rich  experience as head of the Department for Personnel Education of the  Ministry of Defense, Assistant Minister, and since 2002 - in the  former DOSAAF. He was awarded the Order of the "Battle Cross" of the  first degree, the Order of the Red Banner, the Order "Badge of  Honor", honorary citizen of Yerevan (1998), "Hero of Artsakh" (2009,  for exceptional services to the Fatherland).
