Residents of Yerevan central districts who have lost their homes  because of "priority state interest", are protesting in front of  government building

ArmInfo. A protest action is taking place at the moment in front of the building of the  Government, aimed at drawing public attention to the problem of those who have lost their apartments.

As one of the participants of the action noted, living 50 meters from  Swan Lake in the center of the Armenian capital, she was evicted in  order to build up the district with fashionable buildings. "For 15  years we have been fighting for our rights, and so far to no avail,  "she noted, adding that 15 years ago, former Yerevan Mayor Yervand  Zakharyan promised to allocate $ 1 thousand for each square meter of  living space, but in fact $ 230- $ 270 was received.

"With this money you can buy a one-room apartment in the 9th Nork  district. I lived for 45 years in the center of Yerevan, and why, for  some whim, I had to move out of my place, "a protest participant was  indignant.

To note, in the 2000s, large-scale construction of the central areas  of the capital began in Yerevan.  Residents of these areas were  practically forcibly, against their will evicted from their  apartments and houses, and all this was motivated by the "priority  state interest". On the site of old buildings were erected new  fashionable high-rise buildings, the price for 1 sq. m in which  reached $ 3 thousand. Meanwhile, the residents of these areas,  contrary to promises, did not receive housing in new buildings, and  even no compensation. Many of them have thus lost their apartments,  failing to get new ones for meager compensation, even on the  outskirts of the city.
