ODIHR: Armenia still hasn`t had such elections as on December 9

ArmInfo.  There are still no  elections in Armenia like December 9. This was stated by the head of  the observation mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic  Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE / ODIHR), Ursula Gacek, on 10  December during a meeting with journalists.

According to her, the  fundamental human rights and freedoms were observed at the  parliamentary elections in Armenia. Equal conditions on TV were  provided to all political forces. "During the past elections there  was no prosecution of candidates and voters. We are always ready to  help Armenia eliminate the existing shortcomings. I can say with  confidence that so far there have not been such elections in  Armenia," she said. According to her, the majority of voters  supported the power, and such trust obliges.

MEP Heidi Hautala, head of the observation mission in Armenia from  the EU legislature, said that, despite the fact that the parties and  the CEC did not have enough time to prepare for the elections, they  held elections at a very high level. "Everyone was able to express  his will. In the past report (on previous elections, ed.) We talked  about pressure on the voter and the distribution of money. But  yesterday all this was not there," she said.The representative of the  OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Nagima Lanjri, referring to gender  equality in electoral processes, expressed a desire to see more  activity among women during election campaigning. "I would like to  see reforms that would stimulate greater involvement of Armenian  women in the political processes in the country," she said. At the  same time, PACE representative Alexander Posiezh believes that the  Armenian authorities should work on strengthening democracy in the  country. According to him, the report of the organization will be  presented in January 2019.
