"My Step" bloc: We will not be able to dismiss people`s demands. They  simply won`t allow it.

ArmInfo. We always need to  remember that, by supporting Nikol Pashinyan in the days of the  revolution, the people had already put their demands before him,  international expert Hovhannes Igityan, one of the winner candidates  from the "My Step" bloc, expressed such an opinion to ArmInfo.

"And today, after winning the election, we simply cannot dismiss  these demands. The government, the parliament will not be able to  isolate themselves from the people. The people simply will not allow  it. And this should be realized. It seems to me that it is  appropriate to note that there I have never met in the political  arena of Armenia a more opposition politician than Nikol Pashinyan,  "he noted.

According to the preliminary results of the first early elections in  the history of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan's "My Step" bloc with 70,43%  or 884,4 thousand votes, Gagik Tsarukyan's "Prosperous Armenia" party  - 8.37% or 103.8 thousand votes and Edmon Marukyan's "Bright Armenia"  party - 6.37% or a little more than 80 thousand votes entered the  parliament.

"The biggest difference between all the previous and these elections  is the maximum of people's freedom on December 9, 2018. The voter was  completely and in every sense free on his/her way from an apartment  or house to a ballot box. And such a high vote of confidence imposes  higher commitments on the winning political force, in particular, on  the parliamentary faction of the My Step bloc. The people have not  given such confidence to politicians for a long time. Accordingly,  punishment in case of disappointment can be quite painful ", the  politician said.

Igityan, in this light, hopes that the new parliament and  parliamentarians will be able to get rid of many years of dependence  on the government and the figure of the prime minister. In his  conviction, the parliament in Armenia has always been an appendage of  the government. And all the proposals that the president, prime  minister or ministers brought into its walls were immediately adopted  with the touch of a button. The politician considers that it is  possible to change such a situation through the separation of the  legislative branch of power from the executive one.

"I really hope that the new parliament will very quickly understand  and realize its powers. And the government will have to really and  convincingly prove to the parliament the necessity of this or that  law. I think that counterparts from Prosperous and Bright Armenia  will help us with this. I am convinced that there will be both  discussion and opposition within parliament walls. Let us see how the  process of free formation of a political field in which the Civil  Contract party itself for the first time gets the opportunity of its  own institutional formation will develop," Igityan summarized.

For the first time, the main opponent of Pashinyan's party, the  former ruling Republican Party of Armenia, did not enter the  parliament, gaining 4.7% or slightly more than 59 thousand votes.  Voices among the other election participants were distributed as  follows: ARF Dashnaktsutyun- 3.89% (48,811); Pan-Armenian Sasna Tsrer  Party - 1.82% (22,862), Orinats Yerkir Party - 0.99% (12,389), We  Party Bloc - 2% ( 25174), the Christian People's Revival Party -  0.51% (6,456), the National Progress Party - 0.33% (4122), the Social  Democratic Party "Citizen's Decision" - 0.68% or 8530 votes. The  final election results will be announced in a week. According to  preliminary voting results from all 2010 polling stations published  by the RA CEC, the current election was characterized by low voter  turnout: the total number included in the voter register is  2,592,481, 1,260,840 voters or 48.63% of the total electorate voted.  While in the previous parliamentary elections in 2017, more than 60%  of voters came to the polls. More than 200 international observers  observed the elections.
