Nikol Pashinyan: "Old Yerevan" program should be implemented without  destroying cultural and historical monuments

ArmInfo. Acting Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan jointly with Mayor of Yerevan Hayk Marutyan and architect Artur Meschyan got acquainted with the "Old  Yerevan" project.

According to the press service of the government, Marutyan and  Meschyan presented to the Acting Prime Minister the program, as well  as the situation around the architectural monuments that are located  in the project area. This applies in particular to a state-protected  building at Arami 23.

The Acting Prime Minister stressed that the "Old Yerevan" program  should be implemented without destroying other historical buildings.  "The principle of preservation of cultural monuments should be  clearly understood by everyone, and henceforth all construction work  should be carried out according to this principle," Pashinyan  stressed.

The Acting Prime Minister also noted that the strategic task of the  municipality is to increase green areas in the center of Yerevan,  stressing that the Ministry of Nature Protection should also deal  with this issue.

Hayk Marutyan and Artur Meschyan informed the Acting Prime Minister  that the mayor's office now receives numerous proposals for the  implementation of construction investment projects that are sent to  various administrative districts of Yerevan. Touching on unfinished  construction works in the city center, Meschyan said that the mayor's  office was looking for opportunities to complete these projects.   Nikol Pashinyan attached great importance to the implementation of  consistent work in these areas and noted that an active dialogue with  investors is the best way to solve problems and implement investment  programs.

To recall,  "Old Yerevan" project covers about 100,000 sq.m  construction area in the center of Yerevan - from Abovyan Street to  Koghbatsi Street, from Arami Street to Buzand Street. According to  the project, it is planned to restore the architectural appearance of  the Armenian capital of the late XIX - early XX centuries. It was  assumed that the "Old Yerevan" project worth $ 150 million was to be  completed in 2010- 2011. However, the government entered into an  agreement with Multicontinental distribution only in 2014 due to some  problems. Construction work started only in 2017.
