Congressmen call on President Trump to meet with Pashinyan

The Co-Chairs of the  Committee on Armenian Issues of the US Congress are collecting  signatures to send a letter to US President Donald Trump with a call  to meet with the new Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan during  the United Nations summit in New York in September this year. This is  stated in the statement of the Armenian National Committee of America  (ANCA), which arrived in ArmInfo.

This meeting, according to congressmen, can lead to the expansion of  the American-Armenian dialogue and further international economic  integration of Armenia, as well as the growth of bilateral trade and  investment. "We are encouraged by all new opportunities to strengthen  US cooperation with the new government of Armenia and join our  friends from the Congress in supporting the administration to  actively strengthen our bilateral ties, emphasizing the sustainable  development of mutually beneficial economic relations," said ANCA  Executive Director Aram Hamparian. The priorities of the economic  policy of the US and Armenia, as noted in the ANCA, are: 1) a grant  in the field of science, engineering, engineering, art and  mathematics in the amount of $ 140 million for general education  schools in Armenia; 2) a modern tax treaty to eliminate double  taxation and improve financial transparency; 3) Agreement on social  security to protect the profits of citizens who make a career in the  US and the RA; 4) 24-hour commercial and cargo flights from Los  Angeles to Yerevan; and 5) maximize the effectiveness of the existing  framework agreement on trade and investment. In turn, the co-chairs  of the committee on Armenian issues of the US Congress - Frank  Pallone, Jackie Speer, David Trott, David Valadao, as well as the  deputies Gus Birilakis and Adam Schiff, in a letter to colleagues, in  particular, write that since his election Parliament for the post of  prime minister, Nikol Pashinyan devoted himself to solving the  problems of Armenia, both inside the country and on the international  arena. Pashinyan, as they noted, also announced an intention to  deepen ties with the United States. "Undoubtedly, the conversation  between President Trump and Prime Minister Pashinyan with an emphasis  on economic development, security and democracy is extremely  important for forming a stable core of strategic partnership between  our countries," the committee heads noted in a written address to  colleagues. ANCA also promulgated the text of the letter to the US  President, in which the congressmen call on him to meet with the  Armenian Prime Minister at the 73rd session of the UN General  Assembly in the United States. Congressmen also turn to Trump with a  proposal to hold high-level meetings between the cabinet of ministers  of both countries. According to the authors of the letter, the  peaceful transition of power after the revolution is clear evidence  of the will of the Armenian people, which decisively demonstrates its  commitment to a more just and democratic state. According to them,  since Armenia seeks to strengthen the transparency of the government,  strengthen democratic institutions and expand the capacity of civil  society, it is extremely important for the United States to deepen  its ties with this regional partner at all levels of government. 

"Undoubtedly, your meeting with Prime Minister Pashinyan would help  advance this goal and strengthen the dialogue between our countries,"  they said in their address to President Trump. "We believe that  peaceful protests that a place in the velvet revolution in Armenia,  will become a model for all peoples striving for democracy, "the  letter said.
