ArmInfo. The Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) sharply criticized the position of US President Donald Tramp on the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire.
Thus, ANCA Executive Director Aram Hamparian accused Trump of inability to express a true position on the Armenian Genocide.
According to Hamparian, Turkey's nomination to the forefront by Trump leads to a tougher position of Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the Armenian Genocide, Greeks, Assyrians and other Christians.
"In his annual message of April 24, Trump again misled the Ankara government on the issue of the conscientious recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide," the ANCA statement says, adding that Trump, ignoring Erdogan's actions, encourages the foreign dictator to continue publicly denying genocide.
In ANCA's statement, it is noted that refusing to put pressure on Turkey, Trump isolates America, which was left alone with Turkey in the matter of denying the genocide. Aram Hamparian recalled that 48 US states recognized the Armenian Genocide, as well as a dozen NATO allies, including France and Germany, the European Union and, of course, the Pope.
ANCA also emphasizes that it will continue its struggle to achieve the US recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
The day before, US President Donald Trump made a statement in connection with the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Armenian Genocide, in which he again avoided using the term genocide.
According to the White House press service, the American leader noted that the US welcomes the efforts of Turkey and Armenia in recognizing the "painful history". "Today, we remember and honor the memory of those who suffered as a result of the pogroms of Armenians, one of the most horrible crimes of the 20th century."
