Member of the Bundestag: "Eastern Partnership" EU is not directed  against a third country

The deputy of the Bundestag reminded that Armenia did not sign the  Association Agreement with the EU at the Vilnius Summit in 2013,  instead joining the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEC). "This is a clear  example of the fact that each of the EaP countries decides which way  to go to Europe, and we are happy that Armenia signed an agreement on  a comprehensive and expanded partnership with the EU in November of  this year, and we are even more pleased that it could become a kind  of bridge in establishing relations between the EU and the EEA,  "Weiler said.

He added that the signing of the agreement is a historic event and a  new beginning, which will further strengthen Armenia-EU relations. At  the same time, he noted that he was optimistic about the future of  bilateral relations. "We are convinced that we can have stable and  long-term relations." The signing of this agreement will expand  cooperation with the EU in both political and economic fields and  will contribute to deepening peace and security, both internationally  and regionally. issues of fundamental freedoms, expansion of economic  tasks, enhancement of democratic values, "the MP said.

Speaking about the Nagorno-Karabakh issue and the wording in the  document, he recalled that discussions about this issue began quite a  long time and a mutually acceptable variant was achieved. He highly  appreciated the fact that the EU expressed its readiness to intensify  efforts to assist Armenia in enhancing national security and defense  and establishing long-term peace and stability in the region.  According to the deputy, stability in the South Caucasus is of great  importance for the EU.

At the same time, Wailer, referring to the simplification of the visa  regime with the EU, expressed the belief that, at the proper time,  the visa regime will be simplified and that citizens of Armenia will  be able to move freely in the EU space. According to him, for this it  is necessary to have patience and fulfill all the necessary  requirements on this issue, then the visa regime will be liberalized.

Touching on economic cooperation, Weiler stated that Armenia still  has a lot to do to improve the investment climate in the country,  which in turn will attract foreign investors and give new impetus to  the economic development of the republics.
