Analyst: Possibility of surrendering Artsakh territories to  Azerbaijan is continuation of Russia`s general political line

ArmInfo.The very possibility of surrendering a part of the Artsakh territories to Azerbaijan is undoubtedly the continuation of the general political line of Russia.  The director of the Armenian Center for Strategic and National  Studies Manvel Sargsyan expressed such an opinion to ArmInfo.

On September 18, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian at the  Armenia-Diaspora forum designated territories as possible territorial  concessions, "in the transfer of which there will not be a threat to  the security of Artsakh and will not be endangered by a final  settlement of the conflict."

"In this light, the eagerness of the Russian media to raise the  above-mentioned statement by the head of the Armenian Foreign  Ministry does not look like a chance, but it is of course difficult  to say whether Nalbandyan's step towards meeting his Russian  counterparts was purposeful. Nevertheless such a policy have very  dangerous consequences for Armenia, especially in the conditions of  Russia's consistent strengthening of its leadership in the OSCE Minsk  Group," the analyst said.

Sargsyan, in this light, singled out two more important  circumstances. Moscow's attempts to deepen relations with Baku in the  light of the scandal surrounding the journalistic investigation of  the "Azerbaijan laundry" with all the attendant consequences. And  also the embroilment of Azerbaijani information on the possible  membership of the country in the EEU, which is already mentioned by  representatives of the ruling party in Armenia.

"In this light, Artsakh, the problem around Artsakh is of interest to  Russian politicians only in the context of the surrender of certain  territories, which will allow Moscow to resolve its own agenda with  Baku." With the periodic proposals of Moscow to the West over  Artsakh, no one agrees, as they rest on the deployment of Russian  peacekeepers. "That's the whole Russian interest, with which  Nalbandian's recent statements closely co-exist," the analyst summed  up.
