Aram Sargsyan: We must understand how to use Kurdish referendum as  precedent for international recognition of Artsakh

According to him, the plebiscite was organized at the proper level.  "Hundreds of people, despite the heat, stood on the plots, waiting  for their turn to vote, but no crush or tension was recorded,"  Sargsyan said.  Sargsyan also said that during the meetings with the  leadership of the Kurdish autonomy, the latter repeatedly stated that  they would not go to confrontation with Baghdad and did not intend to  lower Iraqi flags immediately after the referendum. "The leadership  of the Kurdish autonomy acts very restrainedly and carefully so that  the process of obtaining independence is consistent with all  international norms," he said, stressing that Erbil is not bothered  by the nervous reaction of neighbors to the processes taking place in  the country. "They are ready to defend their independence with  weapons in their hands, having for this purpose a powerful army  capable of clearing the territory of the terrorists of the IG," said  the leader of the Democratic Party.

Touching upon the processes that are taking place in Kurdistan and  their influence on the situation in the region, and in particular the  Karabakh conflict, the leader of the Democratic Party of Armenia  noted that Yerevan should closely monitor and analyze the situation  in order to understand how these processes can be used in the  Karabakh settlement . "We must understand how the Kurdish referendum  can be used as a precedent for international recognition of the  independence of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic (NKR)," he concluded.

Note that as observers at the referendum there were delegations from  about 60 countries. The plebiscite was attended by 3 million 305  thousand 925 people. This was stated by local authorities of the  autonomous region. More than 5.2 million residents of Iraqi Kurdistan  have the right to vote. Despite the fact that the official results of  the referendum will be made public only after 72 hours, nevertheless,  a preliminary vote count showed that the majority of the referendum  participants supported the establishment of an independent Kurdish  statehood. Nevertheless, Iraq and Turkey have already managed to  express their sharp discontent with the processes in the region,  stressing that they will not accept the results of the referendum if  they are positive. In turn, the leader of the Iraqi Kurds Massoud  Barzani said that he does not intend to go on a confrontation with  his neighbors and wants to solve problems on a negotiated basis.
