ArmInfo. The SLAVMED Medical Center has taken another step forward in the development of Armenia's healthcare system. According to a statement on SLAVMED's official website, the clinic successfully performed the country's first robotic remote surgery, which lasted just two hours.
This achievement places Armenia among the leading countries in the world in terms of remote surgery services.
The clinic has a specialized team of surgeons working in this field. Key factors in the successful remote surgery were the state-of-the-art Toumai MT-1000 robotic system, which is equipped with the only specialized module in Armenia for remote surgeries, as well as the clinic's high-speed internet connections.
The operation on a patient diagnosed with early primary prostate cancer was performed by Professor Alexandre Mottri, one of the world's leading urology specialists and head of the urology department at OLV Hospital in Aalst, Belgium, and executive director of the Orsi Academy. The surgeon performed the procedure remotely, more than 3,300 kilometers away from the patient.
"Coordinated work between teams is crucial during remote surgeries. SLAVMED has achieved this high level, once again confirming its leading position in the region. The introduction of robotic remote surgery opens a new chapter for the clinic, and I want to contribute my experience and knowledge to ensure this initiative achieves great success," he said.
