ArmInfo. On July 7, hundreds of villagers in the Armavir region blocked the Margara-Vanadzor-Tashir road, demanding that the government and regional administration urgently present a clear compensation plan for residents affected by hail and strong winds. This was reported by the website shamshyan.com.
According to the website, on July 6, the strong hail and wind that battered the region's villages literally razed the residents' entire year's work to the ground. The natural disaster, which lasted only a few minutes, destroyed a significant portion of the grapes, apricots, peaches, melons, and other crops, damaging the roofs of residential buildings, solar panels, windows, and numerous cars.
Protesters noted that many of them had been cultivating their land with loans, investing their last resources, and were now faced with a serious social problem. They complained that a day had passed since the disaster, yet not a single representative of the responsible authority had visited the villages, assessed the damage, or presented a support plan for the residents. Villagers noted that a whole year of hard work had been destroyed in a matter of minutes. "
There's no harvest left in our gardens, and we have obligations to banks and credit institutions. If the state doesn't support us, we don't know how we'll live," said one protester.
Another resident noted, "We're not in favor of blocking the road, but we have no other choice." "We just want someone to listen to us, come see what happened, and clearly state what support is planned," he said, adding that the road will only be reopened if responsible officials arrive at the scene, meet with village residents, and present a clear mechanism for paying compensation and assessing damages.
