ArmInfo. The results of the parliamentary elections held in Armenia confirmed the country's commitment to democratic values and constitutional processes.
This was stated by the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, Srbui Galyan, while speaking at the 14th St. Petersburg International Legal Forum on the theme "Reforming the justice system in the face of global challenges: the experience of the Republic of Armenia." During the forum the minister presented the reforms being carried out in Armenia’s justice system and the sector’s development priorities. In particular, she mentioned transferring cases with claims for confiscation of property up to 2 million drams to notaries, which reduced the burden on the courts. Reasonable time limits for hearing civil and administrative cases have been established.
The development of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms was emphasized; in particular, the institutions of arbitration and mediation have been introduced. The introduction of mandatory mediation has contributed to a significant reduction in the number of family cases heard by the courts. Work on digitizing the justice system was also presented, including the implementation of electronic court proceedings systems, modernization of legal information systems, development of digital services, and the launch of a new electronic business register.
The minister also spoke about reforms being carried out in the fight against corruption: a new mechanism for assessing corruption risks has been introduced, requirements for the conduct of officials have been tightened, and experience has been presented in using alternative restraining and punitive measures, including house arrest and administrative supervision. In conclusion, Srbui Galyan noted that effective reform of the justice system is possible thanks to a combination of institutional changes, digital solutions, and international cooperation. She stressed the importance of exchanging experience and the continuous development of professional dialogue.
