ARF member calls search of his home another illegal trial and  political persecution

ArmInfo.The search conducted by Armenian law enforcement is yet another illegal trial and an example of political persecution. Thus, in a conversation with journalists, Ishkhan Saghatelyan, a representative of the Supreme Body of the  Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF Dashnaktsutyun) and a member  of parliament from the opposition Armenia faction, commented on the  search of his home early in the morning of June 23.

According to Saghatelyan, the searches were part of a criminal case  opened for failure to comply with a decision of the Compulsory  Enforcement Service (CES). "The reason is unclear. During the search,  a large group from the Investigative Committee of Armenia surrounded  the building. It's actually quite ridiculous.  They confiscated  jewelry and a certain amount of cash," the opposition member said.

The MP believes that the SES was simply drawn into some kind of legal  process. "Unlawful demands were made during this process, after which  the Prosecutor General's Office quickly opened a case and sent it to  the Investigative Committee, which initiated proceedings. Even though  this case has nothing to do with the law and is yet another example  of political persecution, we tried to demand clarification, but  naturally, they were unable to answer our questions," Saghatelyan  noted.

And although, as the politician noted, this was expected, he joked  that he expected law enforcement to come up with a more serious  matter. "Before this, there were accusations of overthrowing the  constitutional order and organizing mass unrest. This is simply  ridiculous. We are prepared for any scenario. They won't succeed with  such methods. The only unpleasant thing about all this is that it  happened early in the morning, when the children were at home,"  Saghatelyan noted.

The deputy also stated that he currently has no status, and what will  happen next will become clear after questioning. "We already expect  illegal actions from law enforcement agencies every morning. But we  will defend our rights by all means available to us. And if anyone  thinks this will force us to retreat, they simply don't know us well.  Over the past 7-8 years, they should have drawn some conclusions,"  the opposition leader concluded.

As a reminder, early this morning, law enforcement officers  reportedly conducted a search of Ishkhan Saghatelyan's home.  According to lawyer Sergei Harutyunyan, law enforcement officers then  attempted to search the deputy's cars. However, as the lawyer noted,  nothing was found.
