Wings of Unity party files petition with RA Constitutional Court for  invalidation of parliamentary elections results

The Wings of Unity party, led by former Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan, has filed a petition with the Constitutional Court of Armenia asking it to invalidate the results of the country's latest parliamentary elections. Liparit Drmeyan, a  member of the Wings of Unity party, announced this in a conversation  with journalists outside the courthouse.

The politician recalled that they had previously appealed to the  Central Electoral Commission (CEC) to invalidate the election results  and hold a rerun. "Appealing to court is essentially the next step.  We are asking for the results of the parliamentary elections to be  declared invalid. A few days earlier, we also filed a lawsuit in the  Administrative Court challenging one of the Central Election  Commission's decisions made on June 14," Drmeyan said.

Speaking about the position presented in the statement, he noted that  they believe the violations that occurred both during the  pre-election period and on election day impacted the free expression  of the will of citizens. Furthermore, Drmeyan noted, the principle of  equal elections was not respected.

"There is ample evidence that the elections were illegitimate. The  most obvious violation was the abuse of administrative resources and  the use of repressive measures during the campaign period.  Furthermore, we believe that pressure was exerted not only on  political figures, but primarily on voters. For example, attempts  were even made to prevent certain citizens from participating in our  party's meetings or events.  The second part of our statement  concerns violations in the financing of the election fund. In our  opinion, the Civil Contract party exceeded the permissible threshold  and presented expenditures that were inaccurate. I believe this issue  has not been raised before. We previously submitted a similar  complaint to the Central Election Commission, but they rejected it,"  the party member stated.

Drmeyan noted that they have low expectations from the court's  decision, but he did not want to make hasty assumptions about it. "We  have had cases in our history where courts have made lawful decisions  at crucial moments. If such a decision is not made in this case, we  still do not intend to accept the election results," Drmeyan  concluded.

As a reminder, Aram Vardevanyan, a representative of the Strong  Armenia bloc, previously filed a petition with the Constitutional  Court of Armenia to annul the results of the June 7 National Assembly  elections.  The Prosperous Armenia Party and the Armenia bloc also  intend to file petitions.
