ArmInfo. Seyran Ohanyan, the head of the opposition "Armenia" parliamentary faction and former Minister of Defense, is currently on medical leave, and a corresponding medical certificate has been submitted to the court. Gegham Manukyan, an MP from the "Armenia" faction, told ArmInfo. He also stated that it turned out that the government's recent decision had been a misrepresentation of the required form for medical certificate. Consequently, the medical note submitted by Ohanyan's defense attorney did not comply with the new form.
"During the hearing [concerning the case of March 1, 2008], the judge warned that if a certificate in the proper format is not presented at the next session, Ohanyan will be brought to court by force," Manukyan stated, addressing circulating reports that the court had ordered Ohanyan's arrest.
Recall, during the events of March 1-2, 2008, Seyran Ohanyan served as the Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces and the First Deputy Minister of Defense of Armenia. He was appointed Minister of Defense of the Republic in April. He is charged under Part 1 of Article 300.1 of the Criminal Code (overthrow of the constitutional order). Ohanyan denies his guilt.
