Russian Senator: Opposition complaints regarding election violations  by ruling party remain unanswered

ArmInfo. Opposition complaints in Armenia regarding violations committed by the ruling Civil Contract party during the country's parliamentary elections have not received a single response. Russian Senator Alexander Savin stated this at a press conference on June 8.

He stated that their mission, consisting of six Russian senators,  visited 30 polling stations: 10 in Yerevan and 20 outside the  capital. The mission, he added, also included meetings with various  parties, during which all expressed a unanimous opinion. "They  reported that they have not yet received a single response to all  their complaints they filed with the Central Electoral Commission  (CEC) and other agencies regarding violations committed by the ruling  party," Savin noted.

Speaking about other violations, he noted that an insufficient number  of ballots was recorded for certain parties. "There are other similar  problems, but I won't dwell on them; they have been recorded and  forwarded to the Armenian side. Among the serious ones are the  unprecedented pressure from security forces and the arrests of party  activists. Even the chairmen of precinct commissions were detained,  which is also unprecedented," Savin emphasized.

Furthermore, he pointed out a shortcoming in Armenian legislation. As  the Russian senator explained, it makes it impossible for Armenian  citizens living and working abroad to vote. "And that's a very large  number of citizens," Savin noted. As a reminder, parliamentary  elections were held in Armenia on June 7, 2026. According to  preliminary data from the Central Election Commission of Armenia,  based on the vote count from all 2,005 polling stations, Nikol  Pashinyan's ruling Civil Contract party, Samvel Karapetyan's Strong  Armenia bloc, and second president Robert Kocharyan's Armenia bloc  have secured seats in parliament. The remaining candidates scored  below the required threshold of 4% for parties and 8-10% for blocs.  Turnout was 58.97%. A total of 1,476,597 citizens voted in the  elections nationwide, out of 2,505,228 eligible voters. It should be  noted that from early morning on election day, observers and  journalists reported numerous violations in the voting process by the  ruling party. Thus, Pashinyan's party has the opportunity to  single-handedly form the country's government by securing a majority  of seats in the Armenian parliament. He solemnly declared this late  at night, when data from only about 10% of the polling stations had  been processed.
