ArmInfo. The regulatory frameworks established within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) cannot be extended to members of the European Union, as stated by Taalatbek Masadykov, Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
"It is highly difficult to be a member of the European Union and simultaneously belong to the Eurasian Economic Union. This is because the laws, customs barriers, and import-export regulations are frameworks specifically created for EAEU member states," Masadykov said following a meeting of the CSTO Council of Ministers of Defense.
He emphasized that it is impossible "to simultaneously establish conditions for a state to be in both the European Union" and the EAEU. "Ultimately, of course, the choice lies with the people of Armenia and the Armenian leadership," Masadykov added, as reported by TASS.
Recall, Armenia is currently boycotting events held within the CSTO framework. In February 2024, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that Armenia had effectively frozen its participation in the CSTO because the organization failed to fulfill its obligations to the Republic—a stance he warned would have consequences. Furthermore, during the second World Armenian Summit on September 18, 2024, Pashinyan declared that the CSTO poses a direct threat to Armenia's security, future existence, sovereignty, and statehood.
